Packing Tips for Western States

Posted on Feb 6, 2015 in Uncategorized

As you get ready to attend the 2015 Western States session, take the following tips for what and what not to pack.

Keep in mind your attendance at the session is governed by our Code of Conduct, which states that you will behave like a True Gentleman at all times.

DO pack enough business casual (polo/button-down shirt, slacks, dress shoes) for three days (Friday, Saturday and Sunday), or at least wear in proper attire for Friday’s session.

DO NOT pack more than one suit, which you’ll need for the mock initiation on Friday evening; any more will be unnecessary.

DO pack your usual toiletries and travel supplies such as undergarments, personal care products, toothbrush/toothpaste and shaving materials. Forgetful brothers may be able to purchase forgotten supplies in the hotel’s lobby.

DO NOT pack your swimsuit, sadly; late February is a chilly time of year for Las Vegas and the hotel pools will not be open during this time of year.

DO pack some spare writing utensils and notes from your officer notebook that you’d like to bring with you to discuss with the session’s faculty.

DO NOT pack excessive writing materials, as we’ll provide you with a participant workbook to use during the session.

DO pack chapter materials such as recruitment t-shirts or chapter apparel you’d like to show off or trade with other participants.

DO NOT pack an alarm clock, as your room will have one, but be prepared to be on-time for all session events, including morning meals and general sessions.

DO pack enough spending money for a dinner-on-your-own on Saturday evening. Other spending money for the evening is at your (hopefully modest) discretion.

DO NOT pack your fake ID (hint: it won’t work here) or any other material that will make you violate the program’s Code of Conduct, local or federal law, hotel policy or Minerva’s Shield. We will enforce the Code of Conduct throughout the session’s weekend (including overnights), as will hotel security and Las Vegas Metro.
